Philology derives from the Greek φιλολογία (philologia), meaning “love of words” or “love of learning.” It ties together the multifaceted study of texts, languages, and the phenenomenon of language itself. Studia humanitatis — humanistic studies — had for centuries championed Philology as it’s main constituent. The discipline was nearly synonymous with humanistic intellectual life, encompassing not only studies of language and literature but also history, culture, religion, art, archaeology and more. Philology was the queen of all human sciences.
At Language Chronicles, we aim to revive interest in philology, showcasing its enduring relevance and presenting the perennial stories hidden within ancient texts. By fusing language, history, and scholarship, we hope to inspire a new appreciation for this forgotten art. We aim too at presenting the wonders of language from multiple angles, whether it is through language learning methodologies, philosophy of language, writing systems, etymologies, interesting facts, language profiles, and more, to reflect and deepen our understanding of the phenomenology of Language.
⚡I’m the founder of the Language Chronicles
⚡My passion for the humanites — especially Languages, History, and Philosophy — inspired me to create this project to share the beauty that I have found exploring multiple areas of study.
⚡Inspired by the polymaths of old, who refused to confine their knowledge to a single domain, I seek to fuse together insights from multiple disciplines to uncover the deeper enlightenment between ideas.
⚡I have studied over a dozen languages from different regions and periods, and in the process have created and refined a range of language learning strategies and methods designed to help learners achieve their goals more efficiently and doing what they enjoy.
⚡Although my background and job is within the Sciences (Environmental Science), I believe that in this day and age the Humanities are of crucial importance to our society, and wish to foster a community of like-minded individuals with whom I can share and discuss ideas.
⚡I am originally form Mexico, and have lived in the USA, Germany and Japan where I currently live.
Where languages are not merely tools of communication but a mirror of humanity’s soul. Welcome to Language Chronicles.
